Nicknames

We've been having a discussion about nicknames here. "Clementine" is a fairly long name and we're wondering what we can shorten it to.

Richard is not a fan of "Clemmy" but did suggest "Tiney." Grandpa Mike suggested "Baby C" because we already have a "Big C" (my brother Caleb) and a "Little C" (my brother-in-law Chris) in the family. Grace came up with "Emmie" (yes, that was the name of Richard's most recent girlfriend before me, but that's ancient history, right?)

I have called her "Clementiney" a few times, but since that's actually adding a syllable, I don't think it could be considered a nickname. I'm actually leaning toward not using a nickname at all for Clementine. I love her name so much and there's really not a great shortened version of it. Is it at all reasonable to have a child with a 3-syllable name and expect it to not be shortened? Do you have or know of kids with longer names that are always called by their full names? Tell me what you think!

First of all, I love the name Clementine. The whole name.

I had wanted Joshua to be Joshua, but it inevitably got shortened to Joshy. I still call his Joshua and probably always will.

My cousin's daughter's name is Elizabeth. She's only 6, but she's still not turned into Lizzie or Betty or Beth. Many people have asked what she prefers to be called, but it's still Elizabeth. So there may be hope! You can do it!

P.S. I just realized I have a three syllable name, and the only one who has ever called me a nickname is my dad.

Well Ephrim isn't long comparitively. But he doesn't have a shortened version. There just isn't something that works. Some people have called him Effy, but we're not big fans and it didn't last.
